Перенос группой особей (особей-«основателей») большой популяции лишь части генетического разнообразия этой популяции при заселении новой территории, ввиду возможного в связи с Э.о. смещения «акцентов» естественного отбора исходная и новая популяции могут эволюционировать в существенно различающихся направлениях; известны случаи отсутствия Э.о., - например, при антропогенном вселении дальневосточного ротана Perccottus glehni в водоемы Подмосковья.
